Chronic Pain Treatment

Chronic pain is generally defined as pain that lasts longer than three months or recurs frequently. Chronic pain, unlike acute pain, may not be caused by damaged tissue. It is thought to be related to pain memory in the relevant centers of the brain and sensitive areas around the spine.

There is no permanent cure for chronic pain, but it can be managed successfully. Reducing stress in particular will also reduce your pain levels.

How We Do It

Over-the-counter pain relievers: Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.) NSAIDs also reduce inflammation and swelling. Topical pain relievers can also be used for arthritis and muscle pain.

Prescription medications: Opioids (morphine, codeine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone), some antidepressants, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed for more severe cases. Antidepressants can be very effective in treating some types of pain by affecting the way the brain processes pain. They can also help manage depression and anxiety that can occur with chronic pain.
